The Cottage Garden

LOCATION | NEWMARKET

The client’s love of plants was the driving force behind this design. It was also important that the garden provide play opportunities and a sense of adventure for a young child, and be a great outdoor party venue!

While the front garden planting is traditional, the rear includes unusual and exotic specimens, including a loquat tree, elegant black bamboos, giant perennials and bog garden plants.

The front and rear gardens are linked on one side by a pergola over a flagstone path, and on the other side by a narrow bark path squeezed between borders of luxuriant planting …

about GIANT PERENNIALS …

Many are not invasive, need no staking and are easy to maintain. They are dramatic and huge fun. Many provide colour in late summer/autumn, and will stand long into winter, providing visual interest and a valuable overwintering habitat for beneficial insects.
